Both practices have an appointment booking schedule that is linked to our website. You can make an appointment online or call us at 07 3711 2880 (Algester) or 07 3272 7330. (Acacia Ridge). A typical appointment is 10 minutes. Please request a longer appointment if you have additional issues to discuss. If there will be more than one person seeing the doctor, you must schedule an appointment for each person. We do accept walk-in appointments in certain circumstances. If you have an emergency, we will prioritise your appointments and strive to keep waiting times to a minimum.
Any new patients are always welcome. When you book, please let us know that you are a new patient so that we can go over some details with you. You will need your Medicare card, any concession cards you have and photo identification when you arrive. When you check-in, we will give you a 'new patient' form to fill out. This will include basic information such as your address and phone number.
The National Home Doctor Service has a contract with our Algester Medical Centre and Acacia Ridge Family Practice. This service is essentially an after-hours home visit service that attends to medical needs that arise after hours. Please call 13 74 25 to reach us through this service. You can arrange for a local South Brisbane doctor to come to your home and treat you if you call this number. Afterwards, the National Home Doctor Service will send us a report on their visit to our practice. This allows us to ensure that your medical record is up to date.
We are unable to provide results over the phone due to the Privacy Act's requirement for confidentiality. If your results are abnormal or concerning, our team will contact you to schedule an appointment. We will schedule this appointment over the phone, but we will not be able to discuss any of the medical details.
We understand that female doctors are better suited to address certain medical issues. As a result, we have a female doctor on call every day of the week. However, there may be instances where a female doctor is not available. If you have feminine health issues that require attention, please let us know and we can arrange a suitable date for an appointment.
Our South Brisbane medical centres are dedicated to preventative care. As part of this, we send recall or reminder letters to our patients. These will provide you with preventative health services that are appropriate for your healthcare. We understand, however, that this may not be for everyone. As a result, we can unsubscribe you from these reminders upon your request. If you do not want to be a part of the recall system, simply inform your doctor or the receptionist.
If you require a repeat prescription, you must schedule an appointment. This is a critical step in your healthcare because it allows us to ensure that your condition and medication are managed properly. We value your health, which is why we strive to engage in professional medical practices. Furthermore, we must fulfil our medico-legal obligations to our patients. As part of this, we must confirm that your prescription is still valid. Similarly, you will need to schedule an appointment to be referred to a medical specialist. It is critical that you are referred to the appropriate specialist. It is also critical that all relevant medical information for the specialist is included. Referral periods are typically 12 months, but a repeat referral requires another appointment.
Patient confidentiality is an essential component of medical practice. Furthermore, it fosters a strong relationship of trust between doctors and their patients. All patient records are secure and can only be accessed by those who have access to confidential information. In most cases, you can gain access to them, but they remain the property of our medical centres. Simply submit a request to our staff to see them.
We appreciate any and all patient feedback. If you are dissatisfied with our services, you may file a complaint with our receptionist or practice manager. Our team will then do everything possible to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. If you are not satisfied, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Health Ombudsman. To contact this office, simply call 133 646 or go to their website at www.oho.qld.gov.au.
